4-Courses in Chianti: A Wine Pairing Lunch

This wine pairing lunch & winery tour takes place in a medieval Chianti Classico hamlet that was transformed into a villa during the Renaissance. The tour begins with a four-course lunch combining estate wines with traditional Tuscan dishes. Dine while learning about each wine’s method of production. Visit the aging cellars and walk through these scenic San Giovese vineyards that have been producing wine since Etruscan times, nearly 3000 years ago!

  • Upon arrival, your guide welcomes you with a glass of Vermentino. This crisp white hails from a sister winery in the Maremma region of southern Tuscany. Loaded with hints of citrus and almonds, Vermentino pairs well with shellfish and sushi.
  • The four-course wine pairing lunch, crafted by real Tuscan vintners and chefs, is served in one of the oldest parts of the winery. La Stanza del Forno houses a signature 15th century, wood fired oven that supplied bread for the entire hamlet until the late 1700's.
  • Each course carefully matches a specific estate wine with a traditional Tuscan dish made from fresh seasonal ingredients grown in the hamlet’s 400 year old vegetable garden.
  • The guide introduces each course with an overview of that wine’s production method and tasting notes. The Chardonnay is served with an appetizer of Tuscan salami and Pecorino cheese. The pasta and entrée courses are joined to Chianti Classico DOCG and Riserva labels. These deep, ruby wines with aromas of smoky black fruits perfectly complement the rich flavors of Tuscan cuisine, grilled meats and mature cheeses.
  • Dessert is matched to a luminous, golden colored variety of Vin Santo that sparkles with scents of honey-coated almonds with a hint of orange zest.
  • After lunch, the guide leads a walk through the hamlet's three aging cellars including the underground medieval cantina. While winemaking techniques evolved over centuries, your guide reveals why many time honored methods continue to be diligently observed at this winery.
  • The afternoon concludes with a stroll among rows of San Giovese vines that drape a south facing hillside to enhance their perfect ripening.
